South Salt Lake, from State Street to the Jordan River, is minutes from our Salt Lake City office. It's a city of older homes, newer townhomes and plenty of rentals, and its water comes from a different source than Salt Lake City's canyon supply.
Around South Salt Lake
South Salt Lake packs a lot into a small area. It runs from 2100 South down to 3900 South, between the Jordan River and roughly 500 to 700 East, with State Street as its main commercial corridor. The world's first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise opened here in 1952, and the Chinatown development near 3500 South and State Street is the only Chinatown in the Intermountain West.
The city is flat and low, with a fairly high water table. Three tributaries of Mill Creek come together in Fitts Park on 500 East, and much of the city's water is pumped from the aquifer underneath it. From the Central Pointe TRAX station to the neighborhoods around the Granite Library, we're close by from our Salt Lake City office.
About South Salt Lake's Water
South Salt Lake's Water Division provides culinary water for residents from 2100 South to 3300 South. The city says its drinking water comes from groundwater, and that at times the color and smell can vary. Its wells are monitored around the clock.
Groundwater usually carries more dissolved minerals than canyon water, which is why a softener pays off here. If you notice sand or discoloration now and then, a sediment filter in front protects the rest of your equipment.
Getting the Most From Your Water in South Salt Lake
In South Salt Lake townhomes and rentals, space is often tight. A single-tank softener with a small brine tank fits most utility closets, and an under-sink RO system needs no power. If you own a rental, soft water can also cut down on scale-related calls about dishwashers and water heaters.
Water Softener and Water Treatment in South Salt Lake
We often pair a Sediment Pre-Filter with a water softener in South Salt Lake. For drinking water, an Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis system is a simple, no-power option that works well in townhomes and rentals.
