West Jordan has a lot of newer homes, especially out west between 4800 West and State Route 111. New water heaters, dishwashers and fixtures are worth protecting from scale from day one.
Around West Jordan
West Jordan stretches from the west bank of the Jordan River to the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains, where the Kennecott copper mine sits. It's the third most populous city in Utah, and most of its new building is happening out west, between 4800 West and State Route 111.
Gardner Village on 7800 South grew out of Archibald Gardner's mills, which included one of the area's first sawmills in 1850, and it's now a shopping district. Farther west along 7800 South is Veterans' Memorial Park, and Jordan Landing sits by Bangerter Highway near South Valley Regional Airport. Down on 9000 South, Holy Cross Hospital - Jordan Valley and the Salt Lake Community College Jordan Campus are almost side by side.
What West Jordan’s Water Report Shows
West Jordan's 2026 Water Quality Consumer Confidence Report says 93% of the city's water comes from the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, and the other 7% from city-owned groundwater wells.
The same report lists total hardness averaging 182.7 mg/L, about 10.7 grains per gallon, with individual samples as high as 602 mg/L. On the U.S. Geological Survey scale, anything above 180 mg/L is very hard.
Getting the Most From Your Water in West Jordan
West Jordan's own report shows a wide range, from 16 up to 602 mg/L in individual samples. That spread is why we test at your tap rather than going by the city average. For newer homes, adding a softener before the first round of scale builds up keeps water heaters, dishwashers and faucets looking and working like new.
