American Fork, from Mary & Art Dye Park to the shops along I-15, is one of our Utah County cities, served from our Draper office. The city's water comes out of American Fork Canyon and from wells under the valley floor.
Around American Fork
American Fork sits at the foot of Mount Timpanogos, north of Utah Lake. It was incorporated as Lake City in 1852 and renamed in 1860 after the American Fork River, partly to avoid confusion with Salt Lake City. The river still runs through town.
In the center of town, City Hall is on Church Street and the library is on 100 East. American Fork Hospital on 1100 East, the American Fork Amphitheater and Mary & Art Dye Park are on the east side, and the Alpine Valley Center shopping area sits along I-15.
American Fork's Water Sources
American Fork City says its water system draws from springs originating in American Fork Canyon and from deep wells in the aquifer. The city's water quality report names two spring sources, Power House and Timp Cave Camp, and five wells.
The city's report notes that wells are called on to supplement its other sources. Well water usually carries more hardness minerals, so the more the city leans on its wells, the harder your water can get.
Getting the Most From Your Water in American Fork
American Fork leans on its wells more when demand is high, so the water reaching your home can change through the year. A softener with a programmable valve can be adjusted when that happens. If you also notice a chlorine taste or smell, a whole-house carbon filter takes care of it at every tap.
