South Jordan is a short drive from our Draper office, and it has a lot of newer neighborhoods, Daybreak above all. Protecting new appliances and fixtures from scale is one of the easiest ways to keep them working longer.
Around South Jordan
South Jordan runs from the Jordan River, with its 3.5 miles of parkway, west toward the Oquirrh Mountains. The east side sits close to I-15, Mulligans on 10600 South and the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park, where the county fair is held every August.
The western half is Daybreak, a master-planned community built around 67-acre Oquirrh Lake, with SoDa Row and its own TRAX stations on the Red Line. Bangerter Highway cuts through the middle of the city past The District, and South Jordan was the first city anywhere with two Latter-day Saint temples, Jordan River and Oquirrh Mountain.
South Jordan's Water
The City of South Jordan gets its drinking water from the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, which draws from Deer Creek and Jordanelle reservoirs, the Provo River watershed and some groundwater sources.
The city lists its water hardness at 7 to 10 grains per gallon and rates it "Hard," with an average pH of 7.75. That's enough hardness to leave spots on glasses and scale inside your water heater.
Getting the Most From Your Water in South Jordan
At 7 to 10 grains per gallon, South Jordan's water is hard enough to shorten the life of water heaters and leave film on glass shower doors. If you have a large household and several bathrooms, a dual-tank softener is worth a look, since a single tank would regenerate more often.
Water Softener and Water Treatment in South Jordan
Most South Jordan homes are on city water, so a water softener and a reverse osmosis system cover the two big complaints: scale and taste. A Water Softener + Carbon Filter Combo handles hardness and chlorine taste in one tank.
