Midvale sits in the middle of the valley, where I-15 meets I-215, between our Salt Lake City and Draper offices, so help is close from either direction. The city runs its own water system, and it draws on both groundwater and surface water.
Around Midvale
I-15 splits Midvale down the middle. The east side runs up toward the Shops at Fort Union and Union Park on 700 East, with I-215 along its northern edge. The west side reaches the Jordan River and Bingham Junction, where Topgolf now sits on Jordan River Boulevard.
In between is the old town. Main Street and 700 West run through Midvale's historic downtown, near Midvale City Park and the Midvale Performing Arts Center on Center Street, and 7800 South crosses the whole city east to west. Midvale grew up on the railroad and the Bingham Canyon mines, and one of its homes from as early as the 1850s is still preserved.
Midvale's Water Sources
Midvale's 2023 Drinking Water Quality Report says its water comes from both groundwater and surface water. Three wells are its primary sources: the Million Gallon Well, Oak Street Well and Hancock Replacement Well. The city also buys water from the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District.
Jordan Valley lists its own water at about 10 grains per gallon, which is in the hard range. Well water in the valley usually runs harder than that, so a Midvale home can get a mix of both.
Getting the Most From Your Water in Midvale
Midvale sits between two water supplies: the city's own wells and Jordan Valley's treated water. Which one reaches your home can depend on where you live in the city. That's a good reason to test at your own tap before buying anything, rather than going by a neighbor's result across town.
Water Softener and Water Treatment in Midvale
A water test is the first step, then a water softener sized to your result. If your water ever carries grit, a Sediment Pre-Filter protects the softener's valve and resin.
