Highland, from Highland Glen Park to Lone Peak High School, is a quick drive from our Draper office, and its water system is a little different from most of the cities we serve. Instead of a blend of canyon water and wells, Highland's city water comes entirely from the ground.
Around Highland
Highland was settled by homesteaders in the 1870s and named by Scottish immigrants who thought the area looked like the Scottish Highlands. Today it's a city of about 19,000 people between Alpine and American Fork, and it grew by nearly 25% between 2010 and 2020.
Highland Glen Park is on Knight Avenue, and Heritage Park sits along Alpine Highway at 10400 North. City Hall and the library share Civic Center Drive, Lone Peak High School is on 4800 West, and the Murdock Canal Trail runs through town.
Highland's Well Water
Highland City says it has 6 deep well sources within city limits that pump underground water into its system. The city says the water is high enough quality that it doesn't need additional treatment before it reaches your home.
Safe and hard aren't opposites. Groundwater picks up calcium and magnesium as it moves through rock, and those are the minerals that cause scale. So even high-quality well water can leave crust on faucets and inside water heaters.
Getting the Most From Your Water in Highland
Highland's water needs no treatment beyond what the city does, but high-quality groundwater is still hard water. If your home uses a lot of water, we size the softener with extra capacity in mind. An RO system at the kitchen sink is a simple way to get purified drinking water on top of that.
Water Softener and Water Treatment in Highland
A water softener is the main fix for scale on Highland's well-sourced water, and a reverse osmosis system gives you purified drinking water at the kitchen sink.
