Orem is served from our Springville office on State Street. It's a big city with a lot of variety, from older homes near State Street to newer builds on the bench.
Around Orem
Orem used to be called Provo Bench, and before that Sharon. It took its current name in 1914 from Walter C. Orem, president of the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad, and its early farmers built their homes along the territorial highway that's now State Street. Today it's the fifth-largest city in Utah and home to Utah Valley University.
University Parkway connects UVU on the west side with University Place, Utah County's oldest mall, which opened in 1973. State Street still runs through the middle of town past the SCERA Center for the Arts and the Orem Public Library, and City Center Park on Center Street hosts the annual Orem Summerfest.
Orem's Water, From Its Own Report
The City of Orem's 2023 Consumer Confidence Report says about 60% of its water comes from surface water (the Provo River, Deer Creek Reservoir and Jordanelle Reservoir), 25% from nine deep wells and 15% from two mountain springs in Provo Canyon. It all gets blended in the city's system.
The same report lists hardness for the city's own sources at 7 to 25 grains per gallon, and 5.7 to 9.9 for the treated surface water. That's a wide range, and much of it is well into the very hard category.
Getting the Most From Your Water in Orem
With Orem's own sources ranging from 7 to 25 grains per gallon and blended with softer treated surface water, the hardness at your tap can vary. We size your softener for the harder end of that range, so it keeps up on the days your water runs hardest.
Water Softener and Water Treatment in Orem
Because Orem's water can swing that much, we size your softener for the hard end of the range. A reverse osmosis system is a good add-on for drinking water.
