Whole-House Reverse Osmosis Explained Simply
Whole-house reverse osmosis purifies all the water entering a home, not just one faucet. We install 800, 1,500 and 3,000 gallon-per-day systems, usually with a softener, sediment filter, holding tank and pump. It's for very high dissolved solids or purified water at every tap; most homes do fine with a softener and under-sink RO.
Whole-house RO is a bigger investment than an under-sink unit, and it isn't the right choice for every home. But if you have very high dissolved solids, special water needs, or you just want the cleanest water possible throughout the house, it's the system that does it.
When You Need Whole-House Reverse Osmosis
Whole-house RO makes sense when your water has high levels of dissolved solids that a softener and carbon filter won't fix, when you want purified water at every tap, or for light commercial uses that need more volume than an under-sink unit can make.
It's usually part of a full system. We pair it with a softener to protect the membranes, a sediment filter, a holding tank and a pump to keep pressure strong.
For most homes along the Wasatch Front, a softener, a carbon filter and an under-sink RO system at the kitchen sink give you everything you need for less. Whole-house RO is for the cases where that isn't enough.
That's why we start every whole-house RO job with a full water test and an honest talk about whether you need it.
Our Whole-House Reverse Osmosis Process
We start with a full water test and a look at your household's daily use. The systems we install come in 800, 1,500 and 3,000 gallon-per-day sizes, mounted on a steel frame with pressure gauges, automatic flushing and a monitor that reads water purity. The larger model uses two membrane housings and a recirculation loop to cut waste.
We plan the space, plumbing, power and drain, then install the pre-treatment, RO unit, holding tank and delivery pump, and set everything up for your home.
Whole-house RO also needs more space than other systems. The unit, the holding tank and the pre-treatment usually go in a garage or utility room. We'll plan the layout with you before install day so there are no surprises.
We'll also explain the upkeep. Membranes and pre-filters need regular attention, and the monitor on the unit shows you how well it's working.
