Water pH Neutralizer Explained Simply
A water pH neutralizer raises acidic water toward neutral using a tank of calcite, a natural mineral that dissolves as water flows through. Acidic water corrodes copper pipes and water heaters, leaving blue-green stains and pinhole leaks, and it's mostly a private-well problem. It needs no power; the calcite is topped up over time.
Water with a low pH slowly dissolves copper pipes and the metal inside your water heater. The signs are blue-green stains on sinks and tubs, a metallic taste, and pinhole leaks that show up years too early. A neutralizer raises the pH so your water stops eating your plumbing.
When You Need a Water pH Neutralizer
You may need one if you see blue-green stains, have had pinhole leaks in copper pipe, or a water test shows low pH. Acidic water is more common on private wells.
Waiting lets corrosion keep thinning your pipes. A water test is the best first step, and our Water Testing service can tell you your pH.
The pH scale runs from 0 to 14, with 7 as neutral. Water below 7 is acidic. The lower it goes, the more it can dissolve metal. Copper pipes, brass fittings and the tank of your water heater are all at risk.
You can't tell pH by looking at water, which is why testing matters. Stains and leaks are signs, but a test gives you the number.
Signs of acidic water can take years to show up. By the time you see a pinhole leak, corrosion has often been going for a while. That's why we suggest testing pH on any well, even if everything looks fine today.
Low pH is mostly a private-well problem, since city water systems manage corrosion in their water.
Our Water pH Neutralizer Process
We test your pH and install a single tank filled with calcite, a natural calcium carbonate mineral. As water flows through, the calcite slowly dissolves and raises low pH toward a balanced level.
It uses no electricity and no backwash valve. The main upkeep is topping up the calcite as it dissolves over time. Because calcite adds some hardness, we often pair it with a softener.
Because the calcite only dissolves as much as the water needs, it adjusts on its own. You don't need to set a dose or run a pump.
We'll place the tank ahead of your softener so the softener can remove any extra hardness the calcite adds, and we'll recheck pH after install to make sure it landed where it should.
Water pH Neutralizer Cost in Salt Lake City
Price depends on your water's pH, your flow needs and whether you pair it with a softener. We'll test first and give you the price before we start.
A neutralizer costs far less than repiping a house. If acidic water is eating your copper, it's one of the best investments you can make in your plumbing.
Your quote covers the tank, the calcite, the valve, the bypass and the plumbing to connect it. If we recommend a softener after it, we'll price that separately so you can see each piece.
